So the darker side is the waterproof? I'm assuming that should be the outside if making a garment.

Yes, the darker side is the front of the fabric.
We applied a coating to one side to make it water-resistant. However, please note that while it offers some water resistance, it doesn't fully block out water.
What was used for waterproofing?

We did light silicon coating on the fabric surface.
